Choices Pt 2

Making Good Choices Deuteronomy 30:19 – “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” Take a look at the first two words in this verse -“this day.” This is your day to make good decisions. This is your day to create change. It starts today and it starts now! Did you know that good decisions move you forward? And bad decisions move you backwards? No decision keeps you where you are. Today is Sunday. To those of you who have chosen to attend church today – you’ve already made a good choice. Now you can choose your level of participation. Choose your level of worship. Choose how to listen. Choose how you’re going to receive the message. Choose how you’re going to give in the offering. Choose how you’re going to respond to God. Choose to make new friends. Say these good confessions today: Today I choose to live a blessed life! Today I choose to have a successful marriage! Today I choose to be happy and to be a blessing! Today I choose to […]

The Choices You Make – Make You

If you want to move from where you are to where God wants you to be, then you are going to have to LEARN how to make good choices. Notice the word “LEARN” is capitalized. You have to learn how to make good choices or good decisions, because we don’t always make good decisions naturally. Sometimes we make decisions based upon emotions, or knee jerk reactions or bad advice. However, we can LEARN how to take good counsel, know what wisdom looks like and sounds like, and we can surround ourselves with wise people. One decision can change the entire direction or course of your life as well as the lives of others. One decision can have enormous affect, either positive or negative. The Roman Emperor, Constantine, chose to become a follower of Christ, and his decision affected countless millions of people. Constantine ruled Rome from 306 AD to 337 AD. Christianity became the religion of Rome, and the Roman Empire was able to spread the message as far north as England and as far east as Turkey. One man’s decision spread the gospel to the known world. NASA knew the Challenger had “O” ring problems, but decided to launch […]

6 Areas of Stewardship

1) THE LOVE OF GOD – Love is not an option in the life of the Believer. John 13:34-35 says, “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.” People are to identify us as Christians and not by our a) Christian bumper stickers b) fish logo c) WWJD jewelry or d) t-shirt. They should identify us because we are demonstrating LOVE. While searching for the truth, Ghandi, went to a Christian mission in India where they perceived him as just another beggar and thus sent him away. He left wounded and confused and ultimately developed his own religion. What a difference LOVE would have made in his situation. 2) A STEWARD OF THE POTENTIAL INSIDE OF YOU – Failing to be what God had intended for you to be. Can you imagine instead of hearing “Well done good and faithful servant,” you would hear “You were only half done” or “you could have done so much more.” 3) STEWARDS OF OUR BODIES – 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “Do you not know your body […]

Off the Chain Part 2

Today let’s begin with three short stories from The Bible to illustrate how to live a life “Unchained” or without restraint. These stories are found in Matthew 26:7 (The Alabaster Box), Luke 5:4 (Launch Out) and I Kings 17:10 (Widow and Elijah). There were many widows in the land but Elijah was sent only to this one. I had to ask myself the question “Why?” And the best answer I could come up with was – maybe she was the only one who was radical enough that God could bless her. OR – Maybe she was willing enough to risk everything in order to see a miracle. Do you know that sometimes you have to let go of what’s NOT working so you can embrace God’s plan that WILL WORK? We are often times slow to let go of what’s not working. Maybe because of fear, or we just feel we don’t have any options. Why keep living life at a level that you are not happy with, or that’s not working? That’s what we call INSANITY – doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. The widows plan was to gather sticks and die, but God’s plan […]

Off the Chain

When it comes to finances, most people get into some form of money trouble. Most people have a money problem and that money problem is called debt! So they end up in CHAINS. Chained to debt. Enslaved to creditors. Shackled with depression. And strapped to stress. Being CHAINED to debt creates a chain reaction: Debt causes stress, stress makes you feel bad (makes you unhappy); my feeling bad affects my family and makes them unhappy; my unhappy family struggles through life and my quality of life decreases. Being CHAINED can cause a domino affect – one affects the other and then the other and then the other and this ripples throughout your life. Hebrews 13:5 reads “Let your conversations be without covetousness, and be content with such things as you have: for He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you”. Basically, this is saying, be content with what you have. The first principle is to understand the Law of Contentment – if you don’t get this, nothing else you read here is going to work. You’ll never have enough “stuff” because we are living in a world dominated by discontentment and greed. Jesus is the only thing […]
